My Encounter With A Canadian Trump Supporter

It all started out friendly enough.  A discussion between neighbors in the check out line at the grocery store.  The conversation began with simple pleasantries.  Shifted to a dialogue about what has happened to my dogs.  (I said a final good bye to my fifteen year old pug over a year ago and I returned my English bully to my daughter permanently after a recent trip to Cuba.)  I miss them both.

From there we discussed my travel back and forth to Cuba.  The fact that I plan to be returning next month. I explained that was the only place I felt safe to travel with my camera equipment that had palm trees and beaches.

Another reason I like going to Cuba is the fact that it's a direct flight.  There are no stop overs in the Divided States of America.  That was when I made a comment about being thankful that I wouldn't have to land in Trump's territory.

To say that didn't go over well is a bit of an understatement.  Immediately, the other party looked at me with such an intense sincerity stating that Trump was the best thing.  Wow WHAT?

Then the gentleman went on to rationalize his statement by saying that Trump is against abortions.  That the Donald wants to make abortion illegal.  He then slipped into some diatribe about God.

SMH

First of all, this is Canada where abortion is perfectly legal.

Second, how can anyone use the God argument with respect to someone like Trump who has never before worshiped anything other than the all mighty dollar?

Third, am I the only one wondering why the media seemed to highlight Trump having been to church before his Inauguration Day activities began?  Then again on his first official day on the job.

Fourth, doesn't that raise increasing issues when it comes to the separation of church and state? Even the swearing in itself - " ... and will to the best of my ability preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.  So help me God."

Fifth, if we must speak of religion.  Am I the only one who thinks Trump has just become the next Goliath?  I can't wait to see who David turns out to be.

Oh, and don't even get me started on the fact Mrs. Trump was dressed up like Jackie O. Apparently, stealing speeches from Michelle Obama wasn't enough.  There has even been references made to the Kennedy's Camelot reign.  We do all recall how that ended right?

I don't know.  To me, it all defies rational thought.
