Toronto, ON – High Society Cabaret announced that it will present Portrait of a Scandal at Revival Bar, 783 Collect Street, Toronto, for four performances only, September 5, 6 & 12, 13.
Featuring performances by 15 of Toronto’s acclaimed and up and coming performers in dance and burlesque, Portrait of a Scandal, takes audiences to the courts of Versailles in the 1770s, through the eyes of a nosey chambermaid. Through dance, burlesque and an original script by Anna Jaeger, High Society Cabaret’s Founder, Artistic Director & Producer, and Kate Knox, Artistic Director, Producer & Choreographer, audiences will glance into the perverse social politics of the elitist French courts. From lavish courts to the hedonistic bellows of an underground bordello. Portrait of a Scandal is inspired by the seven-time Academy Award nominated film that starred Glenn Close, John Malkovich and Michelle Pfeiffer, with supporting roles played by Keanu Reeves and Uma Thurman. It won three Academy Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Costume Design and Best Art Direction. The film was based on Christopher Hampton’s play Les Liaisons Dangereuses, that was adapted and translated from the 18th-century French novel Les Liaisons dangereuses by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos. High Society Cabaret is an independent Toronto-based dance theatre company founded by Artistic Director Anna Jaeger, and operated with Co-Artistic Director Kate Knox. It is inspired by classic vintage aesthetics ranging from the baroque period to the swinging sixties, combining elements of the burlesque tease with cabaret style dance.
