TORONTO, ON – On May 25, Canadian country superstar George Canyon will release his 12th new album, Southside Of Heaven (ole label group/ red dot), a 12-track collection that reaffirms his renowned skills as both a singer-songwriter and interpreter. As fans heard when the album’s first single and Top 40 Canadian Country Radio hit, “More You”, arrived, Canyon remains conscious of keeping his sound fresh and upbeat with the help of producer Jeff Johnson (Wes Mack, Chris Buck Band). The second single, “Better Off In Love”, written by prolific hit songwriter Brett Jones (Justin Moore, Jason Aldean), displays that same approach. Elsewhere on the album, Canyon tips his hat to old friend Bruce Guthro by covering his classic ballad “Falling” (featuring Guthro on guest vocals), as well as the late great Stompin’ Tom Connors with a new rendition of his iconic “The Hockey Song”. By now, Canyon’s story is legendary. In 2004, with the support of his family, the Nova Scotia native ventured south, quickly becoming a sensation through his appearances on the American television show “Nashville Star”. His debut album, “One Good Friend”, soon followed, earning both JUNO and CCMA Awards. Countless more accolades were to come: 4 Gold albums, an induction into the Nova Scotia Country Music Hall of Fame, multiple top 10 Canadian Country radio singles, and a SOCAN Award for most played song at Canadian Country radio. To date, Canyon has achieved nearly 7 million total streams.

Matt and Kim were celebrating a couple things last night at their Toronto area concert. One was the final concert of their tour. The other, opening night of Canadian Music Week. They exploded onto the Phoenix Concert Theatre stage with their single "It's Alright". Followed by their singles "Block After Block", "Hey Now", and a thoroughly rowdy concert that included some professional level crowd surfing, Even though it was a Monday evening the audience came to party like they had a full weekend to recover before they had to go back to dealing with bosses or professors. Matt and Kim were definitely the right choice to headline the Opening Night celebration of Canadian Music Week. Their chemistry is phenomenal - both between them and with their audience. If that doesn't make you a fan I don't know what will. The good news is that there are still six more nights left of Canadian Music Week. Get your festival wrist bands here before it's too late. If you are looking for a way to wind down from your amplified, high intensity, intoxicating audio/visual experiences may I suggest Fred Penner's CD release party for Hear The Music this afternoon at Lulu Lounge 1585 Dundas St W. Doors open at 2pm.
Hear The Music features a roll call of marquee Canadian talent including Ron Sexsmith, Alex Cuba, Basia Bulat, The Good Lovelies, Terra Lightfoot, Afie Jurvanen (a.k.a Bahamas) plus backup vocals from Fred’s own family, all tethered to the sterling production of long-time collaborator Ken Whiteley. The messages on Fred Penner's new album are reminders of things we as adults occasionally forget. "I Hear The Music ... I can hear it all around me." "Working Together ... Helping each other grow.." "Humility ... Don't try to be someone that you're not." "Hold Your Head Up ... Be proud of who you are.." "Courage is waiting." There are many things that I believe should be included in our children's school curriculum like gratitude journals, money management, and ethics. (Imagine how different our world would be!) This album should be added to our schools music curriculum. Hear The Music by Fred Penner et al is an album created in the best interest of the children. No matter how old we are. Andrew Hyatt The country music showcase on the opening night of Canadian Music Week that was co-hosting by the Boots and Hearts Festival (Is it just me or do other people think they should just call it the Broken Hearts Festival? It;s probably just me. But, I had to share. It was on my mind all night cuz every country singer has their own heart break song.) & KX Country Hot Shots Concert Series was held at the Phoenix Concert Theatre again this year.. Many artist and audience members appeared to be Livin' the Dream Andrew Hyatt had to have been on cloud nine as he was the only one with a fan devoted enough to show up with a hand made sign stating :I'm Here For Andrew Hyatt." Alee (Gottabealee on all her social media. Very creative.) Alee was thrilled to officially announce ... drum roll please ... that she would be performing at this summers Boots and Hearts Music Festival. I know music festival are great party experiences but I'm not sure is her taste for Moonshine will be catered to. Drake White and The Big Fire I'm glad that I was shooting from the rafters at the Phoenix Concert Theatre last night. I had a birds eye view of all the action in the crowd below. There gets to be a certain time during every concert that demands a solid slow dance Last night the song for that dance was Drake White's Makin' Me Look Good Again.. The couples just wrapped themselves up in each other like no one else was watching. Now that's Livin' the Dream. Birds of Olympus had a fresh new video release for their single Vine of the Soul. They are set to perform as part of Canadian Music Weeks Music From Ireland showcase at the Drake Underground tomorrow evening. Doors @ 7:00 pm. Admission $10. I don't think you can squeeze more quality live music out of Canadian Music Week unless they started raising the dead. They just added their final round of artists.
With less than two weeks until the return of the 35th edition of Canadian Music Week (CMW), the festival is pleased to announce even more programming. Portland rockers The Dandy Warhols, Canadian indie darlings Yukon Blonde, Toronto producer Tasha the Amazon, Juno award winner Jess Moskaluke, country fan favourites James Barker Band and more join the previously announced line-up including Big Sean, Melissa Etheridge, and Wolf Parade. Speaking of resurrections a Canadian Music Week wristband would be the perfect gift for any music lovers on your Easter gift giving list. It would fit sweetly in a card envelope or a decadent box of chocolates. That would be worth at least a big hug and a sloppy kiss. With no added fat or calories you can't go wrong.
