Toronto, ON - Thursday, August 30, 2018 – Are you a Banksy-fan and would you like to win one of the infamous Di-faced Ten Pound notes. The "Art of Banksy" thanks its Toronto visitors by organizing a very special lottery and giving one lucky visitor the chance to win one of these iconic works.
The graffiti artist Banksy is known for his irreverent humor and critically witty pieces. Here his punning, counterfeit ten-pound note, replaces the Queen’s portrait with that of Princess Diana, the people’s princess. In 2004, the artist printed one million pounds worth of his “Di Faced Tenner”. The altered bills, which also feature the words "Banksy of America", were then dropped into a crowd at the 2004 Notting Hill Carnival and later that year, at The Reading Festival. Starvox Exhibits and Live Nation will randomly pick one winner of the Di-faced Ten Pound Note, which has been appraised at $3,000.00 and comes with a certificate of authenticity.. All ticket buyers from June 13 until September 16, 2018 at 8pm will have the opportunity to enter for a chance to win. The winner will be contacted on September 17. Visit www.banksyexhibit.com/entertowin to see how you can enter to win. Good Luck!!!

Canadian dates will kick off on October 12 in his hometown of Victoria, BC and wrap November 16 in Niagara Falls, ON. “If I could be on the road 364 days a year I would. No joke. Toronto, ON – High Society Cabaret announced that it will present Portrait of a Scandal at Revival Bar, 783 Collect Street, Toronto, for four performances only, September 5, 6 & 12, 13.
Featuring performances by 15 of Toronto’s acclaimed and up and coming performers in dance and burlesque, Portrait of a Scandal, takes audiences to the courts of Versailles in the 1770s, through the eyes of a nosey chambermaid. Through dance, burlesque and an original script by Anna Jaeger, High Society Cabaret’s Founder, Artistic Director & Producer, and Kate Knox, Artistic Director, Producer & Choreographer, audiences will glance into the perverse social politics of the elitist French courts. From lavish courts to the hedonistic bellows of an underground bordello. Portrait of a Scandal is inspired by the seven-time Academy Award nominated film that starred Glenn Close, John Malkovich and Michelle Pfeiffer, with supporting roles played by Keanu Reeves and Uma Thurman. It won three Academy Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Costume Design and Best Art Direction. The film was based on Christopher Hampton’s play Les Liaisons Dangereuses, that was adapted and translated from the 18th-century French novel Les Liaisons dangereuses by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos. High Society Cabaret is an independent Toronto-based dance theatre company founded by Artistic Director Anna Jaeger, and operated with Co-Artistic Director Kate Knox. It is inspired by classic vintage aesthetics ranging from the baroque period to the swinging sixties, combining elements of the burlesque tease with cabaret style dance. Tickets are on sale now at www.highsocietycabaret.com TORONTO, ON – Get ready for a brand-new Theo Tams. The Alberta native, who at age 23 was named the winner of the 2008 season of Canadian Idol, has experienced a lot since then, and his new EP Call The Doctor is a reflection of his journey and growth. Set for release on September 28 via Hidden Pony Records / Slaight Music, the sound of the 7-song collection is sparse, emotive and pure. Taking cues from Sam Smith and Adele, the production by Montreal’s Gautier Marinof puts the focus squarely on Tams’ most powerful attribute, his voice. "This entire EP was a breakthrough for me. It feels like it’s my first album in a lot of ways because it really feels like it’s 100% the music I always meant to create,” said Theo Tams. The EP’s title comes from a lyric in “Last the Rain", a moving ballad about the ups and downs of a relationship. Co-written with Marinof, it sits alongside a clutch of other songs on the EP that Tams wrote with the award-winning production team Rob Wells and Shobha (aka The Fourth Floor), after their initial attempts at creating EDM and pop-focused material wasn’t having the desired effect. One day, nearing a breakdown, Tams told Wells of his doubts and they embarked on a new approach based solely on what Tams wanted to convey via his music. A laughing spell is cast over all the muggles that attend Potted Potter.
Honestly, I have never laughed so hard publicly in my ENTIRE life! So much so that just moments into the show I was wondering which I was going to regret not coming equipped with more - Kleenex or Depends. Unfortunately, the production has wrapped up it's Toronto dates in order to share Potted Potter The Unauthorized Harry Experience with other cities. Here is the link to the list of upcoming tour dates . Please remember that this is "The Unauthorized Harry Experience" and that it is a "parody". The Daily Bread Food Bank partnered with TCHC to bring a Farmer's Market of fresh fruit and vegetables to a community in Scarborough. This is a great idea on so many levels. First of all, there is no judgement. The food is the first thing residents of the community saw. In most food banks the first thing anyone sees is someone standing between them and a mountain of non-perishable canned goods. Secondly, the kids that came down were treated to an eye level view of healthy sweetness. We all know that supermarkets are designed to sell junk food to the parents of children who wait not so patiently in the checkout line. The children are at eye level with {and often within arms reach of} the highly processed, can't pronounce the ingredients list, on those tiny fist sized, overpriced packages of refined sugar. The Farmer's Market set up by the Daily Bread Food Bank is the only place I would whole heartedly encourage a child to pick something to eat now or try later. Finally, this concept reinforces a sense of community. Nowadays there seems to be a shift from big box supermarkets that feed everyone to supermarkets that specialize in different ethnicities. This Farmers Market fed EVERYONE regardless of age, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and ability. Most importantly this event was designed for those wishing they could sit in on the next level socio-economic class. We need more events like this that bring us together not tear us apart. This event simply reinforces my utopian vision of what I believe is possible, not just in TCHC, but, all across this great city of ours. This event raises one question though that was voiced by Angela Cooke the Vice-President of Resident and Community Servcies at TCHC - If farmers can actually give away 13,000 pounds of top quality produce in one day then "What is the actual value of food?" POP Montreal announces its final round of programming for the 2018 edition taking place September 26-30. The non-profit, artist-centric international music festival prioritizes diversity and creativity when selecting the inspiring collective of local and international artists. Chicago rapper CupcakKe, Synth-pop songstress Zola Jesus, Abenaki filmmaker, singer, artist and activist Alanis Obomsawin, Batucada hardcore duo Ninos du Brasil, Toronto’s industrial electronic act Odonis Odonis, Montreal’s Devon Welsh (Majical Cloudz), Arcade Fire’s Richard Reed Parry’s Quiet River and Elle Barbara's Bosom Confidante sex inspired variety show at Cinema L'Amour are just some of the new additions to the already extensive line up. USS, the Toronto dance rockers comprised of singer/guitarist Ash Buchholz and turntablist/hype man Jason "Human Kebab" Parsons, are a prime example that sometimes it's good to take one's medicine. Playlist aficionados could easily sandwich the band's new single "Medicine" between Nirvana's "Lithium," Björk's "All Is Full Of Love," or, if someone's feeling mischievous, Lil Pump's "Boss." But like most of the music USS make, "Medicine" has layers to its dance-rock groove. The song is the result of Buchholz going on a spiritual walkabout, having done meditative retreats with psychedelic artist Alex Grey, embracing qigong and various elements of Chinese medicine, and attempting to live like nomadic mathematician Paul Erdős for months.
"The by-product of such a bold experiment has been an opening of the floodgates," says Buchholz. "We've been flooded with downloads of new songs. The jukebox of life is pumping fresh, magical melodies." It's been 10 years since USS broke out when Toronto alternative radio station 102.1 The Edge picked up their debut single "Hollow Point Sniper Hyperbole." Numerous radio hits and 11 countries visited later, the band are feeling celebratory. They'll be hosting "birthday parties" in a number of cities in the coming months that will, as Parsons says, feature "insight that you can't read about on the internet, something that'll be offered in-person when we're reflecting on how grateful we are." USS will be traveling across North America on their Bonavista tour this fall! |
