On Thursday August 3, two of Canada's most talked about hip-hop artists, iLLvibe, and Myer Clarity, will perform songs from their new album We Are The Aliens live at Smiling Buddha.
I have heard the new album. Trust me when I say you won't mind being abducted by these two particular aliens for the night.

I don't know about you but I have a tendency toward people watching when I am attending an event. Magic Men Live was no exception. I was observing the women, all dressed to the nines (as if going to a club on a Saturday night despite it being a Sunday evening) and at least four brides-to-be in attendance (one was blindfolded before being stood under the marquee outside the Danforth Music Hall. Glee ripped through her when the blindfold was removed.).
There was the odd guy that would pass through the security barrier. There were those that had the Danforth Music Hall shirts on identifying them as club staff. Then there were these guys that were squeaky clean and cut (as in ripped). Not a hair out of place. One walked through making a comment about "chickens". You could tell by the way he said it he wasn't talking about his last meal or birds on his daddy's ranch in south Texas. According to Urban Dictionary in the best case scenario "chicken' is a term to describe an attractive woman with "breasts" and "thighs". The worst case scenario is that "chicken" is short for "chicken head". That "chicken" refers to a woman who gives oral sex. That comment made by a member of the Magic Men Live team made me wonder who was going to be on stage stripping? Men or women? That also begs the question of who male stripping is empowering. We all know despite the claims of financial independence that female stripping disempowers women. So wouldn't it make sense that when men strip women become empowered? That's what all those frenzied women would like to believe that bought tickets to the show at the Danforth Music Hall the other night. The Magic Men title isn't a misnomer. It's quite accurate. There is an illusion they created whereby women may believe (however briefly) that they are the empowered sex in this scenario. I'm beginning to believe that no one is empowered no matter who is stripping. From now on I'll stick with the Magic Mike movies. At least there, there was the even grander illusion of .romance. |
