Vancouver-based, alternative pop/rock band Alex Little & The Suspicious Minds performed an intimate set at the Rivoli in Toronto on May 27, 2019. They were highlighting songs off their upcoming album due to be released on May 31. The band was recently signed to Light Organ Records. There is nothing "Little" or "Suspicious" about their sound. Their music is a balance of soothing melodies with strong instrumentals. It leaves listeners reminiscing of the late 1970s, early 1980s New York classic rock vibe with pop sensibilities. Alex Little & The Suspicious Minds are remarkably down to earth. They let me take a couple random shots after their performance at the Rivoli. So I have bookended the slideshow of concert pics above with my fav post show randoms. TORONTO, ON - Multi-platinum Grammy, Juno and Polaris Prize nominated singer/songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen releases her new fourth album, Dedicated, today May 17th on 604 Records. Jepsen worked with a crew of trusted songwriters and producers, among them John Hill, Jack Antonoff, Captain Cuts, Patrik Berger, and her longtime collaborator Tavish Crowe, on Dedicated. Jepsen released “Party For One,” the first track off Dedicated, in the fall of 2018 and leading up to her new album release gave fans a taste of what’s to come with the songs “Now That I Found You,” “No Drug Like Me,” “Julien” and most recently “Too Much.” A couple weeks ago I spent over an hour and a half outside the front of my #TorontoCommunityHousingCorporation building picking up cigarette butts. (No worries I had gloves on.) Why would I do this? Because I want to reinforce the notion that #TCHC needs to go smoke free ASAP. Every one of those butts represent the possibility of a fire. What's even more interesting is the amount of time it took for that many butts and the crack pipe to appear on the tiny parcels of land that make up the front lawn. Given that the sod was just placed in the late fall 2018 and I collected them at the end of April 2019 that's just a six month accumulation. The small sections of lawn I picked these butts up from is right on front of the daycare. Yeah, that daycare. As if that's not bad enough they want to turn these small grass patches into an infant play space. Good luck with that!

The Audible Language of Flowers presents 30 lush images created through innovations in digital technologies. Over the past several years, Toronto-based artist T.M. Glass has developed a signature style of image-making to create striking large-scale photographs and sculptures of flowers in vessels. Dramatically lit and set against black backgrounds in square compositions, Glass’ photographic arrangements pay homage to 17th-century flower paintings from northern Europe and reference art historical techniques such as chiaroscuro. Fusing historical aesthetics with current digital technologies, the artist’s hyper-real, vivid tableaux oscillate between the past and the present. Painstakingly pushing the limits of digital manipulation to maximize colour, texture, shape, light, shade, and space, each series advances Glass’ ongoing project to capture what the artist sees and feels when photographing flowers. T. M. Glass The Audible Language of Flowers is on exhibit at the Onsite Gallery (199 Richmond St W) until August 18th 2019. May 5th Part One - So the Gilder Early Learning and Child Care Center (daycare) in my #TorontoCommunityHousing building has decided to upgrade their infant and toddler play spaces. From what I can see these pieces of playground equipment are still in great shape and the one for toddlers has more accessibility features than what is available on the playground equipment used by the #TCHC community as a whole. Has any thought or consideration been given to recycling this playground equipment? There is plenty of room to install the equipment behind the #TorontoCommunityHousingCorporation low rises here on Gilder. I really wish TCHC and affiliates would quit working in silos to have best possible outcome for the community as a whole instead of having competing interests vying for space and funding. #Recycle #Accessible #Playground #Equipment #Silos #hope_still_lives_here May 5th Part Two - I would dearly love to know who gave Gilder Early Learning and Child Care Center permission to commandeer our basketball court. Installing gates at both entrances and placing one of their sheds in the corner of the court without any consultation with the rest of this #TCHC community is disrespectful. Especially given that the daycare was given a seat on the committee that managed to have the basketball court upgraded in the first place. Where was the quid pro quo? Plus, Gilder is not exactly overrun with activities that can keep #TorontoCommunityHousing children and youth busy over the warmer months. Removing access to the one activity that they don't have to sign up to participate in is detrimental to the youth and the community at large. #Children #Youth #TorontoCommunityHousingCorporation #Basketball #hope_still_lives_here
