15 March 2019 (Toronto, ON) – Following nearly a year in the studio, singer-songwriter and JUNO Award nominee for Breakthrough Artist of the Year Johnny Orlando releases his highly anticipated debut EP Teenage Fever today via Universal Music Canada/Island Records.
Emanating confidence and charisma over danceable electronic grooves and a subtle hip-hop bounce, Orlando levels up his take on pop. Once again co-writing with his sister Darian (a tradition dating back to the viral video that launched him to stardom in 2011), and a range of acclaimed collaborators including Mike Wise (bülow, Dvbbs, RALPH), Linnea Södahl (Zara Larsson, Anne-Marie), Nick Ruth (Ryan Tedder), Jordon Manswell (Daniel Caesar) and Matthew Burnett (Jessie Reyez, Daniel Caesar), Orlando gets personal this time around. With his debut EP, Orlando’s lyrical honesty is elevated by impressive vocals and unshakable hooks. “Every song is a reflection of how I’m actually feeling,” says Johnny. “Teenage Fever kind of looks inside my head and shares a sound that’s more authentic than it has ever been. The songs are about experiences I’ve had – things I think all teenagers can relate to – especially while trying to navigate the high school years.” “This is the first time I’ve really taken creative control from start to finish,” he adds. “I worked with so many cool people with different backgrounds and from different places. That gives the EP a lot of character - every song is unique. I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to share this new music with my fans and can’t wait to perform it for everyone live!” You can listen to Teenage Fever here. Speaking of live performances Johnny Orlando will be at the Danforth Music Hall May 2, 2019. You can purchase your tickets here . Marianas Trench was at the Sony Centre in Toronto on March 13th, 2019 as part of their Suspending Gravity Tour.
Unfortunately, the suspending gravity philosophy does not apply while riding the Suspending Gravity Tour bus. Josh Ramsay (in the photo above) posted a video on line to their social media accounts about an incident that occurred on said bus. Apparently, the bus zigged (or zagged) unexpectedly as he was walking on the bus. The sudden shift in course for the bus slammed Josh - ribs first - into a table. That resulted in some bruised ribs for him. As of this moment. there have been no reported injuries to the table. He described the event as "just one of the hazards of living on a moving vehicle." Despite, Josh Ramsay's severely bruised ribs Marianas Trench had the audience out of their seats for the entire evening. There was no way anyone would have been able to tell that Josh recently had a run-in with a table. Until such a time as Marianas Trench can actually suspend gravity on the tour bus you can purchase tickets for the Suspending Gravity Tour here and listen to their new album Phantoms here. TORONTO, March 12, 2019 - In 2018, Grammy award-winning composer and entertainer Chilly Gonzales called all performing musicians to join him in a journey into the unknown: The Gonzervatory, a music school where freedom and fun coexist with discipline and reverence. The selected students were musicians from all over the world. Whether trained or self-taught, acoustic or electronic, singers or rappers everyone was welcomed to apply.
This year, Chilly Gonzales is proud to present the second Gonzervatory, an all-expenses-paid 10-day music performance workshop taking place in his hometown of Cologne, Germany this fall. Five selected students will win a trip to hone their musical skills in preparation for a final concert led by Chilly Gonzales himself. At the Gonzervatory, students arrive to a Convocation Concert on Monday 28 October 2019. Their first meeting with Chilly Gonzales will be... on stage! During the workshop, students will live and work together in a musical home created at Cologne’s own 25 hours hotel, The Circle. Each day starts with one-on-one coaching sessions with Gonzo, followed by afternoon masterclasses from special guests selected from his friends and collaborators. Each evening the students rehearse together, learning and practicing each other’s songs for the Graduation Concert on Friday 8 November 2019. The experience, with all its inevitable struggles and triumphs, will be documented and shared with viewers all over the world. Livestreams and daily video debriefs will allow audiences to witness personal exchanges in real time and develop an emotional investment in the participants’ musical progress. If this sounds like you're ideal opportunity you can apply HERE
I seem to have acquired a habit of tweeting a stream of consciousness thoughts when I least expect it. This is often how I determine whether or not I have enough for an article. Here's a glimpse at my process.
You know how the #TTC allows people with #PRESTO cards to hop on and hop off the system for a single fare for a full two hours? Well it's not just for picking up groceries or the kids at daycare. I use it to stay up to date on my #graffiti #photo #collection. #ThankYouTTC #Toronto #art #streetart #YYZ
Last night was an Ontario Creates invitation only event at The Lounge at Live Nation designed to celebrate the 2019 JUNO nominated artists.
Speeches were kept to a minimum. At one point during the evening Karen Thorne-Stone, President & CEO, Ontario Creates briefly introduced, then handed the microphone over to, Allen Reid, President & CEO of CARAS (photo above). (In an effort to take JUNO nominated artist Tyler Shaw's advice, I'm not going to Overthink this post. I'm going to give you some of the amazing highlights of Allen Reid's brief but very informative speech.) Allen thanked Karen for the introduction and Live Nation for hosting. He congratulated all the JUNO nominees. "There were 2800 submissions for this year's awards. (The number of submissions have doubled over the last seven years.) There are 188 nominations for the JUNO's this year and a 104 are from Ontario. That's almost 60% of the nominations" from this province. "There is no question that what Ontario Creates and the Ontario government do to support our music sector has a direct impact on the opportunities for these artists. It also has allowed us to have the JUNO's return to Ontario on a regular basis." "The JUNO's are a lot more than an awards show." We want to make sure we are supporting and investing in our artist to help them grow their business. CARAS does this through their four pillars of programming. They educate through Music Counts, develop careers through the Master Class along with Juno TV, celebrate the artists through the JUNO awards, and honour the artist, "our icons", through Canadian Music Hall of Fame. The goal of CARAS is to be with you for your entire music career. Beginning when you pick up your first instrument in school. Hopefully, up until you, get into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. "It's not just about being a nominee. It's not just about winning. My favourite thing about what the JUNO's actually is … is camaraderie. This is one of the few times that our entire industry gets to gather (especially the artists) all in one place." The city of London is "on fire" preparing for their very first opportunity to host the JUNO's . The entire community is engaged. You can't go anywhere in London without knowing that the JUNO's are coming. Many of the JUNO associated events are already SOLD OUT. In conclusion, I too would like to congratulate all the JUNO nominated artists. I would also like to congratulate London because you are going to have a WICKED time. Cheers!
