Other than taking pictures and the absolute generosity of the Cuban people the new thing that I absolutely love about Cuba is the dessert. I'm not talking about the starchy stuff. I'm talking about the vanilla ice cream. It was so good I honestly had it one night as my only course at dinner service.. In the heavy Cuban heat there is already a foamless puddle in the bottom of your bowl when you reach your table. I take that as a good sign. No additives to make it artificially retain its shape. Nom Nom Nom Slurp!
A couple cautions about this resort in particular. Number One - Expect to take a little longer than usual to find your accommodations upon arrival. The layout does not necessarily make sense and I spent a considerable amount of time late at night lugging my carry on around looking for villa #45. At a resort, that is spread out as this one is. they should really hand you a map at check in. Number Two - If you arrive on that late night flight expect to find a small ham sandwich and a can of Coke in your fridge as your supper. (If you are flying in via Air Transat they no longer serve complimentary meals on the flights to Cuba.) So don't make the same mistake I made and arrive not having eaten anything all day.. Number Three - Many people like to make healthier food choices. My biggest one lately aside from limiting sugar, dairy, starches, and fluids to water, is to avoid beef, pork and chicken. I have been to several. other locations throughout Cuba and the buffet choices were clearly labelled as to which meat was the main in a each dish. I shouldn't have had to ask the cook on a couple occasions which dishes, if any, were fish. Just sayin' Number Four - When you arrive not only should they give you a map of the resort to help you find your accommodations but they should be able to guestimate what time your check out will be on the day you leave. Especially, considering that they have your departure flight details right in front of them when you check in.. I wander past the reception on Day Five of a seven day visit to inquire about check out times. I was told to come back the day of departure after breakfast. They assured me they would know by then. So I strolled through the lobby on my final day at nine a.m.. They told me to come back in an hour. So much for that idea. I decided to take the time to just rest in my room.. At noon I showed up in the lobby with my luggage. At that point I was told check out time was at 3:30. Really? Whatever. I ended up napping in the lobby before the bus arrived to drive us back to the airport. Lucky I did. It's better for me to wait on Cuba ... Cuz if your luggage is not on the vehicle (bus or plane) Cuba isn't going to wait for you. As two mature, heavily tanned, and bleached ladies learned the hard way. Adios amigos! For the record, I totally missed the opportunity to get the answer to that age old question of "Why did the chicken cross the road?" My bad!
